Laptop sticker shock!

Laptop_stickers_1
Want to sponsor a geek at what promises to be one of the geek-fest highlights of the year, this weekend’s BarCampEarthSasha Chua is taking all comers from her Toronto home base.  Inspired by The Million Dollar Homepage, Sasha is auctioning off advertising space on her tiny 8.9" Sony Vaio PCG-U1 (I couldn’t resist the link to the Sony Japan site).

I originally discovered this bit of "news" at InTourpreneur.com.  But it was already of course old news on Digg over a day ago.  And I try so hard to stay timely and topical!

Summer of Flickr (or making up for the lack of one)

  Climbing Pike’s Peak
  Originally uploaded by notrivers.

I’ve finally posted a summer’s worth of photos on Flickr including two trips to Colorado (one for each family!) and some random shots around LA and on one of our roadtrips to Colorado.  Here’s one of the "real barcamp", which is the 10,000 foot base camp at Pike’s Peak…and is also an inside joke for all of your techno-geeks out there.

To see all of my photos, here ya go.
For the shots of Colorado, specifically, including some stunning shots from the ascent up Pike’s Peak, here ya go.

Cheers,

David Pogue…is this 1998?

17pogue2190Seriously?  You got space in the NYT in August 2006 for writing an article about a gadget that converts records and tapes to CDs?  Now if this thing plugged right into my Powerbook…then maybe we’d be on to something…

NAA — What were they thinking?

Thanks to Jeff Jarvis for pulling me out of a summer blogging semi-retirement. I haven’t posted in, what, a month? I guess I’ve been too busy surfing (the waves, not the web). I’m just trying to enjoy my first real summer in LA.

But…

This short post by Jarvis cracked me up. I agree with Jeff. What was the NAA (Newspaper Association of America) thinking? To me, this ad campaign image just doesn’t exactly scream “oh we’re so modern”…
